A congressional primary election will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 in Union County to vote in the following contests:
1. US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, DISTRICT 9
2. REP NC SUPREME COURT ASSOCIATE JUSTICE
Most voters will be asked to present acceptable photo identification when presenting to vote in person, with exceptions for voters who are unable to obtain acceptable photo identification, have a religious objection to being photographed, or are victims of a natural disaster. Acceptable forms of photo identification are a NC Driver License or DMV-issued identification card (expired up to four years), US Passport or Passport card (unexpired), Military ID card or Veterans Affairs ID card (unexpired, if there is an expiration date), and certain tribal enrollment cards.

Congratulations to the MRHS Baseball team on their back to back win for the 3A State Title! The Mavericks defeated Topsail Beach in a 3 game series this past weekend. After dropping game 1, the Mavs rebounded and dominated in games 2 and 3, taking the series and bringing the title back to Marvin! Way to go Mavs!!

MRHS Baseball won the 3A Western Regional Championship this past weekend. They advance to the 3A State Championships today in a 3 game series against Topsail H.S. The games will be played in Burlington. We wish them the best of luck as they defend their title and hope for back to back championship titles! Go Mavs!

The Village Council will hold a public hearing on the FY 2016-2017 Operating Budget at a special meeting to be held on Tuesday, June 7 at 5 p.m. at the Village Hall. The Marvin Ridge HS Men's Lacrosse team won the State 3A Championships! The final game was against Carrboro High School. The Mavs won the game 16-3. Congratulations Mavericks!

Two Marvin Ridge High School coaches have been recognized by the National Federation of State High School Associations as the 2015 Coaches of the Year.
Melissa King-Pierce and Cameron Starr were presented with their 2015 Coach of the Year awards at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s Spring Board of Directors meeting in Chapel Hill.
Coach King-Pierce was selected to receive the 2015 Coach of the Year award at the state level in girls swimming and diving. During her four years as head coach, the swimming and diving teams have won the Southern Carolina Conference, Union County championships for boys and girls for each of the past four seasons, seven regional championships, two state runner-up performances and three NCHSAA 3A state championships. Under her guidance, swimming and diving athletes have won six individual and 14 relay state titles, while six of her former athletes have gone on to compete on the collegiate level.
Coach Starr received the 2015 Coach of the Year award at the state level in girls cross-country.Starr has been coaching at Marvin Ridge High School since the school opened in the fall of 2007. During his tenure as an assistant and head coach, his cross country and track teams have won a combined 24 Union County championships, 32 conference championships, 16 regional championships, eight state runner-up performances and six state championships.

Harry Swimmer, local resident and friend to many in the Marvin area, has been named a CNN hero! Mr. Swimmer created the Mitey Riders program, a certified equine-assisted therapy program for young people with a wide range of disabilities. He began the program in 1994 and has hosted more than 700 children since that time.

The Village of Marvin invites you to enjoy movie night under the stars! We will feature the Disney movie 'Inside Out'. Bring your blankets and chairs to set up on the lawn. It should be a great night for a picnic dinner! Movie begins at dusk, appx. 8:15. Bring your flashlights and bug spray, just to be safe!
Kids activities begin at 6 p.m. in the barn and a scavenger hunt will take place along the nature trails.
