Park Maintenance Associate

The Village of Marvin has an immediate opening for a Park Maintenance Associate.  The position assists staff in parking permit distribution and enforcement.  The associate also helps with planning, organizing and preparing for small events or daytime programs that may be held at the park and provides routine, manual maintenance and repair of park landscaped areas and park amenities such as bathrooms, pavilions, playgrounds, trails, and picnic areas. This position is responsible for opening or closing the park.

Must be at least 18 yrs old, with a valid North Carolina driver’s license; able to work independently without on-site supervision; requires use of machinery, power tools and hand tools. The position may require minor medical training.

Work schedule is flexible; five to seven days a week and up to 15 hours per week. Hiring Rate: $14.00/hr.  Applications will be accepted at Village Hall – open until filled.

Full-Time Village Administrator

The Village of Marvin seeks qualified applicants for the full-time position of Village Administrator to carry out the policies of the elected governing body (Mayor and 4-member Council). The successful candidate will be responsible for professional level tasks including, but not limited to: general supervision of departments, budget preparation and modification, providing the Village Council with information on the status of projects and municipal functions, as well as coordination of the Village’s transportation, engineering and construction projects. The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership skills and familiarity in municipal administration, finance, large project management and possess the ability to work effectively with the governing council, staff, and citizens.  The ability to leverage a solid, but small staff is a must. 

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Public Policy or other appropriate field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of three years leadership experience or equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Salary: $55,000-60,000 DOQ. Benefits package is provided.

Part Time Planner - Marvin, NC pop. 6,400. Performs highly responsible professional planning, zoning, permitting and development review functions for a municipality located 12 miles south of Charlotte in Union County with high growth rate; responsible for the implementation of the Village’s land use and development plans, GIS mapping, site plan and subdivision review and text amendments. Work involves complex and sensitive issues requiring a high level of judgment and tact and the ability to clearly communicate and work with citizens, volunteer boards and elected officials.  Requires a bachelor’s degree in city/regional planning or closely related field with at least three years’ experience in municipal planning, AICP preferred.
