Roads. Roads. Roads.

Every 3-5 years, the Village Engineer assesses all Village roads and rates them based on an array of criteria and advises on the prescribed treatment. As the Village has just recently got into owning roads within the last couple years, the majority of Village maintained roads needs very little maintenance as they were resurfaced before accepting into Marvin’s operations.

Several subdivision roads within the municipal limits of Marvin are still under the maintenance and control of NCDOT until they are accepted by Marvin; this is all done to have the least impact on the taxpayers of Marvin. In short, the Village will not take over a road from NCDOT or a private subdivision until the roads are brought up to a high standard so the Village can assure, they are receiving a top quality product to start maintaining. Simply put, the Village will not accept a bad road filled with potholes and cracks to only pay out lots of taxpayer dollars to bring it up to standard.

That said, there are still several roads in need of repair or complete resurfacing within Marvin but are under complete control of NCDOT until that takes place; if citizens see work being done on some roads and not others, chances are the reason lies within what entity owns and maintains that road. As several issues have faced State funding, staff is unsure when NCDOT will begin resurfacing on their roads; however, the Village will still be conducting preventative maintenance on Village of Marvin roads. Over the next few years, citizens will see “fog seals” placed on recently resurfaced roads (such as Canterfield Creek, Weddington Chase, Heritage Oak, Firethorne to name a few); this treatment is an overlay spray to prolong the life of the road as Marvin wishes to preserve all roads in its system at a very high standard.
If anyone has any questions about what road their system is in, what year they are likely to see work conducted, please see the link below:
